Empowerment is Contagious

Too often, the only times we hear about female empowerment in the news is when something violates women's rights, but how often do moments of genuine uplift occur? Moreover, with social media often showcasing the "best" parts of ourselves coupled with the ability to alter photos we post online, it seems like a never-ending competition between all women without any light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.

To conquer this darkness, here are some simple ways to empower all the women in your life.

1. Shut Down Negativity

Negativity is one of the biggest problems in today's culture of near-constant presence on social media and the internet. Women are constantly being held to unrealistic double standards from our beauty to professionalism to our home-life. Too often, we are gaslighted and pushed aside because society has told us that we cannot do something, but the only way to change this is to support one another and listen to all perspectives. We need to advocate for all of our female colleagues and shut down the negativity around us to truly empower all women.

2. Be Open and Honest

Being open and honest is the next big step to empowering all the women around you. Although it is not easy to be vulnerable, it is integral to create real change in the lives around you. Sharing your experiences with others may give others the courage to use their own voice to inspire change. No one can tell you how to be the expert of your own experiences or how you live your life, so do not be afraid to let others in, and hopefully, they will do the same for you.

3. Lead By Example

It is undeniable that young women are deeply influenced by their role models. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that you positively impact anyone who may look up to you. Our younger generations must see us celebrate all types of beauty and successes - both big and small. As mentioned before, too many women are shut down and diminished compared to their male counterparts, so we need to show we matter. The best role models empower with strength and kindness and continuously encourage women to make their aspirations their reality.

4. Show Appreciation

Although this may seem trivial, remember to thank those in your life. By giving and accepting compliments and celebrating all the little achievements, it shows both thoughtfulness and empathy. Sometimes simply telling others how much they mean to you can make all the difference because we are not always aware of what is occurring in each other's lives. Overall, just act with kindness; it may be a small gesture, but it is the most sincere way to empower other women.

5. Put Yourself First

As women, we are often pressured to take on many roles and push our own aspirations aside. However, the only way you will empower the best in others is to be the best version of yourself. If you are confident and empowered enough to follow your own dreams, you can enable others to follow their dreams, no matter what they are or where they are in life. It is okay to put ourselves first and to say no. Although this may be difficult, never apologize for setting boundaries or speaking up for yourself, no matter the situation. This does not make you weak, nor does this mean you are any less of a person. It just means you have the self-awareness and courage to be the best you.

At The BRICC Foundry, we know it all starts with one action. Every woman has something to offer, inspire, and level up the next woman. No matter how you identify or what you believe in, or what you like to wear, we are ALL real women, and we all have something unique to bring to the table. The narrative for women needs to change, and to see this come to fruition, requires a team effort. As always, don't be afraid to be you, and remember that every smile, compliment, and celebration counts.
