1st U.S. Senator to Give Birth In Office: Tammy Duckworth

Tammy Duckworth is the first U.S. Senator to give birth in office!  To date, only 51 women have served in the Senate.

This statistic aligns with the controversial topic of balancing work & family. Of course, women know we can do both… right?

Well, a study by PwC reported that 42% of childless professional women admitted that they felt nervous about what having a child would mean to the future of their careers.

Nearly 1/2 of the women in the study felt that having a child would result in being overlooked for promotions and special projects.

Sen. Duckworth has been vocal about how current laws may prevent her from doing her job - voting on legislation that she was elected by the people to carry out.

Despite the weight of Illinois on her back, she’s working her platform! She lobbied to change Senate floor rules that made it illegal for her baby to accompany her.

Let’s be frank, not all of us got it like that!

In fact, it sheds perspective. If a retired Army Lt. Col pilot in the Iraq War has issues with the workforce as a woman & mother, what is it really going to take to make strides on this front?

Tell The BRICC Foundry how we can provide direct support to our working mothers! We are in this with you!
